This Week’s Noteworthy Find: Brains on Fire, Inc.Â
A certified great place to work and an innovative way to bring people together through storytelling, Brains on Fire is a notable full-service creative agency dedicated to marketing in a more community-centered, human way.
-----------------------
With many digital marketing agencies on the rise during a time of remote work, companies face the possibility of failing to make a personal connection with their colleagues, clients, and community. However, Brains on Fire has made it their mission to consistently deliver on a lasting form of marketing that revolves around linking people through values, stories, and more since before a global pandemic. This Certified B Corporation has gone above and beyond by purposefully providing a people-centered marketing initiative, alongside actively looking for ways to improve their employee’s experience at the company.Â
Co-Founded by now President Robbin Phillips in 1998, Brains on Fire planted its HQ roots in Greenville, South Carolina. Since then the company has taken an opportunity on the west coast by opening another location in Los Angeles, California. This expansion only proved to provide endless opportunities to improve the company externally and internally.Â
This motive to continuously benefit the company from the inside out had always been in effect. It was when COO, Kelly Townsend, came with the news that their company had not been achieving a high mark among the companies listed with the Best Small and Medium Workplaces™, that the company needed to redesign the way they illustrated how they had always actively been bettering their organizational culture in order to make all team members heard.Â
‍Taking the Initiative to Improve Company Culture
Not only has Brains on Fire taken the reins on designing a company that is community-focused but they have also taken the time to learn what motivates their team and how to improve company culture by taking the Trust Index Survey. In an interview with Co-President and CFO, Brandy Amidon, the reason behind participating in this survey is because “This practice provides a voice to everyone, no matter their age, title or longevity with our company... We are in this together, which means we have to trust each member of the team to respect differing opinions and thoughts and also speak up in real-time.”Â
One way they do this is by giving everyone they come across; Whether an employee, client, or partner; an opportunity to voice their story. In turn, this is an effective way to fulfill their passion for marketing as well as bringing the community together and humanizing their brand by starting these conversations. They now hold a title for a “Certified Great Place to Work” which is reflected on their website:Â
“At the end of the day, we believe our job is to help people find themselves in a story bigger than their own. We want to help you be that story. A story with meaning. A story that connects people and is worth talking about.”
It is no wonder why a Glassdoor reviewer commented:Â
“Brains on Fire is a tight-knit, creative company with forward-thinking leadership. Great benefits, great people, great clients.”

‍Our Takeaway
Brains on Fire manages to use their business as a force of “doing good” while balancing the output of creativity into the world, both done with intent to inspire others. They pave the road for other companies on a journey to becoming one with their community and not brushing off other’s victories to the side. It is clear that at Brains on Fire, everyone has a voice, and that voice will be listened to and respected.Â
With Brains on Fires’ initiative to always do right by their community and help others craft their story, it is essential to note that this is still possible even in a remote world. Appreciating the people that make up your team and support system is one thing, but amplifying those appreciations is another in itself. Brains on Fire successfully ticks off the boxes and sets a remarkable example for why businesses should be highlighting employee success, and working effortlessly to inspire and motivate their employees.Â
The one thing that really stands out to us is that this marketing agency is not afraid to get personal with their clients. In fact, they take the less traditional route of business transactions and instead dive right in to getting to know everything about the company they are working with- challenges, community, and most importantly, culture. Brains on Fire successfully takes collaboration to the next level; We at GoodSeeker love seeing companies call out what they stand for and going the extra mile to implement themselves in not just their own culture, but others as well. There is opportunity in taking the initiative to seek the good in all involved in a brand, and Brains on Fire does just that- their actions perfectly capture what GoodSeeker wishes to project to the world!
